‘On The Count Of Three’ Review: A Thematically Streamlined Tonal Balancing Act (Sundance 2021)

On this episode of The Global Film Podcast, Editor-In-Chief and Host Diego Andaluz reviews Jerrod Carmichael’s latest film On The Count Of Three. Joined by contributors Valerie Complex (Variety), Jeffery Zhang (Strange Harbors), and Tessa Smith, they discuss their in-depth thoughts on the technical and thematic strengths and shortcomings of the film, among other notable highlights.

Val has reached a place where he feels the only way out is to end things. But he considers himself a bit of a failure—his effectiveness lacking—so he figures he could use some help. As luck would have it, Val’s best friend, Kevin, is recovering from a failed suicide attempt, so he seems like the perfect partner for executing this double suicide plan. But before they go, they have some unfinished business to attend to.

On The Count Of Three premiered at the 2021 edition of the Sundance Film Festival. Listen to our review at the Sundance Special episode below or here on your preferred podcast platform.
