Joined by numerous global contributors, they’ll discuss their in-depth thoughts on the technical and thematic strengths and shortcomings of the film, among other notable highlights, on an upcoming episode of the podcast.

A decade after the last of the Cabrini towers were torn down, Anthony and his partner move into a loft in the now gentrified Cabrini. A chance encounter with an old-timer exposes Anthony to the true story behind Candyman.

Rating: 4 out of 5.

CANDYMAN deserves to be known as a modern horror classic. While it would’ve benefitted from a longer runtime, Nia DaCosta’s brilliant direction cultivates a chilling atmosphere that establishes her as one of the most exciting studio horror filmmakers of our time.

– Diego Andaluz

Candyman is directed by Nia DaCosta, stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Teyonah Parris, and comes to theaters on August 27th.

‘Jungle Cruise’ Review: The Cinematic Epitome Of Mindless Enjoyment

On this edition of the The Global Film Show report, Editor-In-Chief Diego Andaluz gives his quick thoughts on Jungle Cruise. Joined by numerous global contributors, they’ll discuss their in-depth thoughts on the technical and thematic strengths and shortcomings of the film, among other notable highlights on an upcoming episode of the podcast.

A family on a tropical holiday discovers that the secluded beach where they are staying is somehow causing them to age rapidly, reducing their entire lives into a single day.

Rating: 3 out of 5.

JUNGLE CRUISE  is the cinematic epitome of mindless enjoyment. With engaging action sequences, idiosyncratic characters, and an expansive narrative throughline, it’ll please families and those looking for light escapist entertainment, but its generic beats and jumbled story result in an ultimately forgettable film.

– Diego Andaluz

An epic fantasy adventure based on the timeless Arthurian legend, The Green Knight tells the story of Sir Gawain, King Arthur’s reckless and headstrong nephew, who embarks on a daring quest to confront the eponymous Green Knight, a gigantic emerald-skinned stranger and tester of men.

THE GREEN KNIGHT is one of the best films of the year. Hypnotic, methodically paced, and visually stunning, it plays like an elevated cross between LORD OF THE RINGS & BLADE RUNNER 2049 with a brilliant final montage that will make you question the trajectory of your entire life and establishes Lowery as a true visionary at the top of his craft.

‘Old’ Review: M. Night Shyamalan Delivers with a Divisive Experiment

On this edition of the The Global Film Show report, Editor-In-Chief Diego Andaluz gives his quick thoughts on Old.

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

OLD plays like M. Night Shyamalan’s TENET, featuring a director operating at his absolute MOST. Powered by his best and worst tendencies at their extremes, it’s hurt by a distractingly off-kilter atmosphere but is saved by its uniquely bold structure and an ambitiously twisted script!

– Diego Andaluz

Old is directed by M. Night Shyamalan, stars Gabriel Garcia Bernal, Alex Wolff and Vicky Krepps, and comes to theaters on July 23rd.

An ordinary family man named Dan Forester is recruited by time travelers from 30 years in the future to fight in a deadly war against aliens.

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

The Tomorrow War is one of the first surprise hits of the summer! With superb action and striking creature design it embraces well-trodden sci-fi blockbuster elements by remixing them through a cleverly subversive structure that imbues bombastic spectacle with a compelling sense of character

– Diego Andaluz

‘Black Widow’ Review: A Passably Generic Blockbuster

On this edition of the The Global Film Show report, Editor-In-Chief Diego Andaluz gives his quick thoughts on Black Widow. Joined by numerous global contributors, they’ll discuss their in-depth thoughts on the technical and thematic strengths and shortcomings of the film, among other notable highlights on an upcoming episode of the podcast.

Natasha Romanoff, also known as Black Widow, confronts the darker parts of her ledger when a dangerous conspiracy with ties to her past arises. Pursued by a force that will stop at nothing to bring her down, Natasha must deal with her history as a spy and the broken relationships left in her wake long before she became an Avenger.

Rating: 3 out of 5.

A middle-of-the-road, unimpressive blockbuster that only shines in fleeting moments of what seems like creative innovation but in reality is just the employment of standard filmmaking techniques that haven’t been used in the MCU. This film would feel right at home in the early years of the franchise. Not only because that’s when it would’ve held some sort of relevance, but because it plays like the type of unambitiously rote origin film that was prevalent in that era. Simply put, it’s the definition of passable.

– Diego Andaluz

Black Widow is directed by Cate Shortland, stars Scarlett Johansson, Florence Pugh and Rachel Weisz , and comes to theaters and Disney+ on July 9th.

‘Luca’ Review: A Lacking Pixar Offering Saved by a Compelling Finale

On this edition of the The Global Film Show report, Editor-In-Chief Diego Andaluz gives his quick thoughts on Luca. Joined by numerous global contributors, they’ll discuss their in-depth thoughts on the technical and thematic strengths and shortcomings of the film, among other notable highlights on an upcoming episode of the podcast.

Two young boys experience an unforgettable Italian summer filled with gelato, pasta and endless scooter rides. But all the fun is threatened by a deeply-held secret: they are sea monsters from another world just below the water’s surface.

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

LUCA is a solid animated offering that fails to live up to Pixar’s best work. Largely enjoyable but lacking the ambition, thematic depth, & maturity present in Pixar’s finest films, it’s saved by an emotionally compelling finale that results in a joyfully adequate watch!

– Diego Andaluz

Luca is directed by Enrico Casarosa, stars Jacob Tremblay, Jack Dylan Grazer and Emma Berman, and comes to theaters on July 30th.
